Review: Purity Ring

For the most part, music on adverts tends to be about 3 months behind the charts, hence why Ho Hey by the Lumineers is still knocking around, but every so often, they source a new song, something that makes their advert stand out, luckily for me, this something that Very.co.uk have done and in the process given me a new band to follow.

Canadian duo Megan James and Corin Roddick make up the electronic synthpop group Purity Ring, who have managed to produce one of the the few worthwhile Chillwaves album, somthing that is both darkly beautiful and easily accessible at the same time, which is surprising considering just how dark some of the lyrics can be, for instance in Fineshrine, one of the first lines you hear is “Cut open my sternum and pull my little ribs around you”, thought this is successfully counteracted with a beautifully light composition and visually stimulating videos.

This album feels like one darkly poetic dream sequence, that capitalises on the rise in witch house and following in the success of their label mate Grimes, Purity Ring look like they will helping to make the genre slightly less repetitive and undeveloped.
