Time is the enemy
Director: Sam Mendes
Starring: Andrew Scott, Teresa Mahoney, Richard Madden, Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Strong, Colin Firth
Release Date: January 2020
Plot: Two young British privates during the First World War are given an impossible mission: deliver a message deep in enemy territory that will stop 1,600 men, and one of the soldier’s brothers, from walking straight into a deadly trap.
We have recently been treated to a long line of excellently told and beautifully shot war dramas, with 1917 looking unlikely to break that pattern if the trailer is anything to go by.
1917’s trailer has the same feel as that of Dunkirk but unlike Nolan’s war masterpiece, this film will be linear, made to look and feel as though it was filmed in one shot. An aspect that has gotten me very excited to experience this and to see a film that finally does WWI justice, as up until now all we have had is a collection of bad horror films, Wonder Woman and Blackadder.
When will I see it: Opening fortnight
If you liked: Saving Private Ryan, A Night To Remember, Hacksaw Ridge
