Maybe it was the talk of  DiCaprio’s accent but Blood Diamond became one of those films that managed to skip me by but I’m wishing it hadn’t. Tension-filled and showcasing the diamond industries’ darker and more exploitative side, sure it’s a lot of parts that are difficult to watch, but Blood Diamond sometimes that’s what’s needed to raise awareness of an issue.

Blood Diamond review

For me, the most difficult aspect was seeing the brainwashing of the children by the rebels, turning them into soldiers to help overthrow the governments, it’s a haunting thought that this continues to go on and watching the struggle a father (Hounsou) went through to rescue his son from these gangs is an emotional rollercoaster.

I’m not saying that Blood Diamond is a perfect film, there’s DiCaprio’s accent, I mean sure you get used to it but it does throw you, to begin with, it has more than its fair share of clichés and the decision to place 1999 seems a little unnecessary given that these issues still exist and the laws put in place to stop the blood diamond trade haven’t really stopped this from being a thing that happens.

  1. Blood Diamond is an oldie but a goodie. It never gets old. I’ve seen it so many times, and it’s always just as good as the first time.

  2. I never watched this one because the subject matter seems so heavy, but now I’ll have to watch it just so I can hear Leonardo DiCaprio’s accent lol. Also, Jennifer Connelly is great in everything I’ve seen her in.

  3. A movie with Jennifer Connelly is always high up on my list if I get to choose, and if you enter a big name like Dicaprio as well… well, how can that be wrong?

  4. I have never watched this yet. But, it seems an interesting movie to watch. I will check it again to see the whole movie.

  5. I don’t remember if I have seen this, but I don’t think I have. It sounds like a good movie. We are struggling trying to find things to watch and I will have to add this to my list.

  6. Thanks for another great movie review! This was on my watch list and I can’t wait to see this film!

  7. I am a Leo fan and I love this movie. Especially that the movie took place in Africa and we don’t get to see a lot of revealing some of the harsh situations there. Thanks for bringing this up and I will share with my friends – Knycx journeying
