Barbarella is very much a film of its time, filled with cheap-looking sets, over-the-top acting, overtly sexual characters and several gaping plot holes/continuity errors, in fact, you soon come to realise that most of the film’s story is absolute nonsense. Yet. for all the movie’s faults, you can’t help but find it an absolute pleasure to watch. While Jane Fonda is a delight as this wide-eyed space vixen experiences a sexual reawakening while searching for Durand Durand.

Barbarella doesn’t ask you to take it seriously. Everything is intentionally camp and the events that transpire are completely ludicrous, If you like your science-fiction straight such as The Andromeda Strain or Outland then this isn’t the film for you, but if want to experience a more psychedelic and liberated future then this will be your bliss!
