Rating: 3 out of 5.

House of Wax isn’t the most original slasher flick, but that does not take away from the certain level of charm it holds, and pretty much contains everything you would want in a cheesy horror film.

As standard for the genre and the time it was made, the plot is rather simple, with another disposable group of pretty young adults being prayed upon by a crazed killer. Where House of Wax distinguishes itself is its relatively slow-burning plot and a good mixture of scares and gore which really starts to ramp up at the 40-minute mark and despite the little character development, the acting is surprisingly good and the characters remain likeable.

The film is of course not perfect, the dialogue is cheesy and the films major “twist” doesn’t shock as much as the makers would have hoped, however, House of Wax still manages to entertain and remains a film I would recommend getting your friends together to watch and enjoy, after all, who doesn’t enjoy watching Paris attempt to act.
