Rating: 4 out of 5.

Directed by Scott Coffey, Adult World is a quaint indie-comedy film that stars Emma Roberts as Amy, a naïve young poet, who reluctantly ends up living with a Transvestite and working in an adult bookstore, escaping the pressure from her parents to give up her dream of following in the footsteps of her idol, Rat Billings (John Cusack).

The film is a charming and well made small budget indie comedy, documenting the quirky life of a girl that is stuck between childhood and adulthood, finding that sometimes you have to lower your expectations of how your life will turn out, in order to follow your dreams.

While the supporting cast including Evan Peters all put in strong performances that round out a pretty solid indie film, in fact, it is probably one of Cusack’s strongest appearances in years, as the former poet superstar, turned misanthropic university lecturer.
