IMDB

Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of the classic novel Little Women is perhaps the best to date, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given how good her previous movie Lady Bird turned out to be. Universally brilliant, credit for how well this movie turned out should also go to the wonderfully talented actors, especially the young stars (Ronan, Watson, Scanlen and Pugh) who play the four sisters and Timothee Chalamet as Theodore, the boy next door and future love interest for a couple of the girls.

Little Women (2019)

Filled with some beautifully rich cinematography by Yorick Le Saux, Little Women is a treat for the eyes. The critical thing that deterred me from enjoying this film as much as others clearly had, was the pacing. There were times, especially in the movie’s second act, when the plot seemed to slow down to a crawl and it became a struggle to concentrate on all the diverging storylines.

Luckily, the movie eventually gets back on track as Gerwig brings together these various plot points in a satisfying and for anyone who has read the novel, somewhat surprising manner. In the end, Little Women’s pacing issues couldn’t detract from my admiration for both Greta Gerwig and the wonderful piece of cinema she produced.
